BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
The company’s history is rooted in the sugar
business, which although sold in 2004 to British
Sugar, still operates in the US with its “Billington’s”
and Wholesome Sweeteners brands but which now
also embraces a number of other specialist manufactured
products for both the food industry and retail
sector.
Almost as long-established as the food sector
is the company’s agricultural business,
which primarily provides dairy, beef and sheep
feed but increasingly meets all the farmers needs
from machinery, fertilisers, animal health products
through to clothing and footwear via its venture
Carrs Billington Agriculture Ltd. Criddle and
Co Ltd, a wholly owned agricultural raw material
supplier and trader, is increasingly successful
and supplies CBAL as well as trading with other
third parties.
Each member of the main Edward Billington board
is responsible for one or more of the companies
in the group. Together, they provide a solid,
professional support so that each company can
maximise its potential within the marketplace,
knowing that it has the financial and management
support required to succeed.
Edward Billington and Son Ltd is a premier league
company with a formidable scale and presence in
the markets it serves.
THE FUTURE
Our long-term strategy continues to be to expand
our business by responding to the opportunities
and threats in our markets. We shall do this,
as we always have done, in the context of the
expertise within our group, our entrepreneurial
spirit and thetwo-way commitment between the
company and its employees.
We are not alone, these days, in regarding people
as our most valuable resource. But our attitude
is based on a tradition ofmore than 140 years
during which we have sought always to recognise
and reward commitment to our business. Secondly,
we take as read that our customers will expect
us to continue to provide the highest standards
of product and service in all our activities.
And we will.
Beyond this, amid the complex political, social,
economic and technological factors at play in
our markets, in times of great change, we intend
the name of Edward Billington and Son Ltd to remain
a byword for quality and enterprise.
